South Texas MSAR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization composed of certified mounted search and rescue horses and human remains detection dogs. Our primary mission is to provide detection and recovery resources to public safety agencies at no cost, while also advocating for the preservation and long-term success of adopted American Mustangs.
.All STMSAR horses are adopted wild mustangs from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Each horse is trained in scent detection through the American Equine Scenting Association and certified as NASAR Mounted SAR Tech III. Evaluations are conducted by Rick Wagner, a former law enforcement mounted patrol officer.
Our canines are professionally trained and certified in both human remains and firearms detection. Their certifications are renewed annually through the American Working Dog Association, ensuring continued excellence and operational readiness in every deployment.
